Place Action|Community:
[convention] Center Ideation
Notes from Meeting #3 [1-17-08]
Purpose =
o        Citizen-engagement...
o        ... around "Place-making" decisions
o        First effort:  To conduct "ideation" efforts around potential uses
for a "Center" in Cleveland.
o        i.e., a 7x24 place where all kinds of things happen (including
conventions).
o        To help thinking expand from "ConventionCenter" --> to
"Center" --> to "Destination".
2.        The team will proceed with this effort  - - all the while, working
to build-bridges with those currently working on the project... i.e.,
ensure a "diplomatic" process through which we connect with the
current-players and help them understand our goals & objectives - -
Convey that our intent is to be "additive" & complementary.  We
believe this process can apply at just about any time within the
"Center" decision process.  Before site-selection, after site-selection...
before, during & after "design"... and more.   We believe we can
build a balance of involvement, including currently-involved
institutions... interested individuals... and anyone in-between.  We
hope to:
o        Help expand ideas for "use" of a Center.
o        Build awareness & a base of informed citizens
o        Offer a genuine engagement mechanism for those in our
region who want to be part of the "conversation"
o        Help build demand & ideas for expanded Center return-on-
investment... (and/or other major works)
o        Potential collateral-benefit?   The formation of an
engagement model/process that not only helps this region & like
project(s) - - but potentially helps Cleveland(ers) get noticed,
globally, by way of demonstrating the deployment of creative,
authentic, innovative civic-engagement & ideation process(es)
3.        Certain one-off awareness-creation meetings are now under-
way with the Action-Community's "Diplomacy Subteam".  Meetings
have begun with key players in the community - Example:  Mayor
Bruce Akers, David Akers & Craig James met with Kurt Treu, President
US Bank Northeast Ohio (and current Positively-Cleveland Board
Chair) on 1-16-08.  Additional meetings to occur.
4.        Key Next-Step Conclusion:
o        After some deliberation - - it was determined that an 'ideation
brainstorming event' is the appropriate next major step.
o        The mechanism for event : Loop back to the "Cat-Strat
|Convo" event-calendar & programming. i.e. “Convo Conference”
o        Cat-Strat has added said incremental Convo/Conference (Feb
28th) to the schedule.
o        The Feb 28 to be focused on “Center+”.  Idea-outcomes & will
be highly-facilitated to that end
